Who We Are

Suds of Love, Inc. is a faith-based and mobile hygiene access nonprofit based in Brunswick County, NC and serving Southeastern North Carolina. Through on-site laundry services, hygiene distribution, and community partnerships, we address structural barriers created by poverty and limited transportation. By bringing services directly into rural communities, we strengthen workforce readiness, school attendance, public health, and long-term stabilization.

Restoring Dignity Through Hygiene.

We believe everyone deserves access to basic hygiene. Our mission is to provide free laundry services, showers, hygiene kits, and washer/dryer donations to schools and communities in need. But we don’t just wash clothes—we restore hope.

The Heart of Our Work: Miss Dorothy

Our 30-foot mobile laundry and shower truck—affectionately named Miss Dorothy—travels across Brunswick County and beyond to meet people where they are. Equipped with 3 washer/dryer sets and a full bathroom, Miss Dorothy is more than a truck—she’s a symbol of care, compassion, and second chances.

Where It All Began

Suds of Love started with a simple observation: people can’t thrive when they don’t feel clean. What began as a grassroots effort to serve our local homeless community has grown into a "heart assignment" with deep roots in service, prayer, and action. Our founder, Tina Bowen, envisioned a space where people felt seen, heard, and loved—and that vision drives us every day.

 – Bill, a guest

“Now that I have clean clothes, people will stop treating me like a bum and a beggar when I go into a store… I feel normal now.”

What Sets Us Apart

At Suds of Love, we meet people where they are—with compassion, respect, and practical support that restores dignity. We believe hygiene is more than a basic necessity; it is a pathway to opportunity, confidence, and belonging. Clean clothes and access to a warm shower may appear simple, but for someone experiencing hardship, they can be transformative.
Each time Miss Dorothy arrives in a community, we deliver more than laundry services—we offer hope, encouragement, and genuine human connection. Our volunteers welcome every guest with kindness, often greeting them by name. We take time to listen and ask how they are doing, not just what they need. While our services are mobile, our commitment to the people we serve is steadfast and deeply rooted in community relationships.
We collaborate with schools, shelters, churches, and civic organizations to reach individuals and families who are often overlooked. This includes students attending school without clean clothing, individuals living without access to showers, and families navigating challenging circumstances. In addition to providing mobile laundry and hygiene services, we donate washer and dryer sets to high-need schools, ensuring students can focus on learning with confidence rather than embarrassment.

Volunteers:  The Hands and Hearts Behind the Mission

Suds of Love is powered by compassion—and that compassion is made visible through our dedicated volunteers. They are the heart of our mission. Whether folding freshly washed clothes, preparing supplies, or praying alongside a guest, each volunteer serves with purpose and care. Some are retirees seeking meaningful ways to give back. Others are students, business owners, or parents who feel called to serve their community. Regardless of background, every volunteer brings warmth, dignity, and encouragement to those we support.

Our volunteers do more than complete tasks—they build relationships. They take time to listen, share a smile, and offer words of hope. They treat every guest with respect and equality, ensuring that each person feels seen, valued, and cared for. Through their service, compassion becomes action, and action becomes impact.

Our Foundation:  Faith at the Center

Suds of Love is a faith-centered nonprofit founded on the belief that every person is worthy of dignity, respect, and compassion—because each individual is created in the image of God. Our mission is grounded in prayer and guided by the example of Jesus, who humbly washed feet and intentionally welcomed those who were often overlooked.

While our faith inspires our service, we do not impose or pressure our beliefs on anyone. We serve individuals and families of all backgrounds, cultures, and belief systems. If you are in need or walking through a difficult season, we serve—no questions asked, no expectations attached. Our role is not to judge or persuade, but to care.

Our motto, “One clean load at a time,” reflects more than laundry. It represents our commitment to restoring hope, rebuilding confidence, and affirming human worth—one person at a time. Through simple acts of service, we demonstrate love in action and compassion without condition.
