This Giving Tuesday, Suds of Love is dreaming big and inviting the community to dream alongside them.
The Brunswick County-based nonprofit, led by founder Tina Bowen, has been serving families, schools, and individuals across Southeastern North Carolina through a mobile laundry and shower ministry that restores dignity, confidence, and hope. Their beloved mobile unit, “Miss Dorothy,” has been on the road for years, providing clean clothes, warm showers, and a reminder that kindness still moves through our communities.
Now, it’s time for the next step.
Suds of Love has officially launched its Giving Tuesday Fundraising Campaign to build Suds 2.0, a new enclosed trailer that will double their impact and help more families across Brunswick County, Shallotte, Calabash, Leland, Southport, and surrounding areas. The new trailer will include six washer and dryer sets, upgraded plumbing and propane systems, and enhanced safety features to ensure every guest has a clean, private, and dignified experience.
A Bigger Way to Serve
Suds of Love’s work has never been about laundry alone. It’s about showing up for neighbors in need, creating a safe space for those who feel unseen, and building relationships through simple acts of service.
With the new trailer, the organization will be able to: ✔ Serve twice as many families each month ✔ Provide more private shower spaces and safer setups for guests ✔ Reduce waiting times at Serve Days ✔ Deliver washer and dryer sets to additional local schools
As Miss Dorothy continues to serve faithfully, the addition of Suds 2.0 will ensure no one is turned away.
Every Gift Matters
Each dollar donated helps make this dream a reality. Contributions go directly toward the cost of the new trailer and the equipment needed to operate it. The breakdown includes:
Six washer and dryer units
Propane and plumbing installations
Electrical systems and safety locks
A reliable truck to tow the trailer
Through December 2, Suds of Love is running a Matching Gift Challenge, meaning every donation made during this period will be doubled, turning $25 into $50, $100 into $200, and so on. The goal is to raise enough to fund the full trailer build and bring Suds 2.0 on the road by the new year.
Kindness in Action
Tina Bowen, a retired educator with over 30 years of experience serving others, founded Suds of Love with the belief that clean clothes and hygiene are not luxuries, they are essentials. The organization’s motto, “Restoring dignity, one load at a time,” captures what this mission is truly about.
Serving communities like Shallotte, Ocean Isle Beach, Calabash, and Southport, the nonprofit has already washed hundreds of loads, distributed thousands of hygiene kits, and provided countless showers for guests facing homelessness and hardship. With the support of donors, civic groups, and volunteers, Suds of Love continues to meet growing needs across Southeastern North Carolina.
